Australia’s new SEVS (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme) came into effect in June 2021 and is administered through the ROVER online system.
To be eligible for import under SEVS, a vehicle model must not have been sold new in Australia in the same configuration, and it must satisfy at least one of the six SEVS eligibility criteria.
Before importing a vehicle, two key conditions must be met:
The vehicle model must be approved for import under SEVS
Compliance approval must be available for that model
To see whether a vehicle is eligible, visit ROVER and access the SEVS Register, which lists all models currently approved for import into Australia.
Please note that the SEVS Register is continually being updated, and additional vehicle models are added over time.
If the model you want to import is not listed, but you believe it meets the SEVS criteria, you have two options:
Apply through ROVER for the government to assess the model for approval, or
Engage an approved SEVS compliance workshop to submit the application on your behalf
(Please note: we are unable to assist with this application process.)
Compliance is just as important as model approval.
In ROVER, select the List of Approved Model Reports to check whether compliance is available for your chosen vehicle.
A Model Report is essentially the compliance package required for the vehicle.
An approved Model Report must exist before a registered SEVS workshop can submit an import approval application.
Like the SEVS Register, the Model Report List is a work in progress, with more compliance packages being added over time.
